LeMarcus, DeMarcus, tomato, tomahto. The two bigs battled it out last night, which resulted in a four point win for the Kings. While we are interested in judging them based on their basketball skills, its important to take a look at some hypotheticals in determining who is the better big.
We've done this before with Kyrie Irving & Damian Lillard, and we'll take a look at some similar categories; including, who you'd want on your side in a brawl, who you'd want to pick-up chicks with, and who you'd rather live with.
Who would you rather build a team with; LaMarcus Aldridge or DeMarcus Cousins? Lets look at the tale of the tape;
LaMarcus Aldridge: Age:28. 6'11, 240 lbs. For his career, Aldridge has averages 18.6 points and 8 rebounds per game. This season, he's putting up the best numbers of his career with 23 points and 11 bounds.
DeMarcus Cousins: Age:23. 6'11, 270 lbs. Cousins has averaged 17 points and 10 bounds throughout his young career. He too, is having the best season of his life, averaging 23.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.
The obvious differences is the age disparity. If you're starting a team, and the players are equally talented, you'll be inclined to build with the guy who is 5 years younger. Cousins' attitude issues are cause for concern though. His immaturity and lack of effort seem to be a thing of the past, but you can't be sure if he'll regress. On the other hand, Aldridge keeps a relatively low profile and is a consistent presence.
All things noted, I'd have to choose DeMarcus Cousins and believe his better years are ahead and he's done with the baby act.
You've got to live with one of these guys for a full year. For the sake of the game, let's assume they won't be on the road half of the year playing games. Who do you sign your lease with?
This all comes down to preference. LaMarcus Aldridge seems like the low key roommate, whereas Boogie Cousins seems like a complete wildcard.
With Aldridge, you might be living in more of a library. After all, he's on the record as saying his favorite hobby is sleeping. A quiet roommate is always a plus.
With Cousins, it could be like the Bronx Zoo. You come home from work, open the door, and a cloud of smoke smacks you in the grill and DeMarcus is passed out on the couch with an open box of pizza lying on the floor.
Personally, I'm signing the lease with LaMarcus Aldridge. Need the peace and quiet. Boogie is too much of a liability.
You're out at the club, or a party, or just out playing ball at the park, and a fight breaks out. We've all been there before. Which one of these big fellas do you want on your side?
No brainer. You take the guy named DeMarcus "Boogie" Cousins. Nothing against LA, but I'm not going to not pick up Boogie Cousins as my tag team partner.
Who would you rather have has your wingman; LaMarcus or DeMarcus?
DeMarcus Cousins dropped a seed in his ex girlfriend, and thats never a good look for a wingman. However, I'm not sure LaMarcus Aldridge is the ideal candidate either.
Neither of these bros seem like particularly good wingmen, but given the fact that Cousins is down to party more than LA, I'd have to go with DeMarcus Cousins as my partner in crime. Not real crime, the chicks would be legal.
Which players' supporting cast would you rather have?
LaMarcus Aldridge has the privilege of playing with one of the best young point guards in the game, Damian Lillard. Wesley Matthews is having a breakout year, and Nicholas Batum is a fine role player also. Playing alongside 7'0 big man, Robin Lopez is another plus.
DeMarcus Cousins is surrounded by a decent point guard in Isaiah Thomas, and a promising rookie, Ben McLemore. The Kings also made a move to acquire Rudy Gay, which makes the Kings roster a bit more intriguing.
Taking all of that into account, I'd rather have LaMarcus Aldridge's Blazers squad. It comes down to the fact of Damian Lillard being one of the fastest rising stars in the game. Can't pass up an opportunity to ball with a guy like that.
