Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash likely will miss at least two weeks after being diagnosed with nerve root irritation in his back.

Nash left the Lakers' Sunday night home loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first half and did not return to action. According to the Lakers, Nash visited a back specialist, Dr. Robert Watkins, on Monday, and Watkins recommended an epidural block, which is expected to be administered Tuesday.

In a statement, the Lakers said Nash would be re-evaluated after approximately 10 days.

Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni said following Sunday's game, "He was struggling physically tonight. You could see it on his face."

In eight games this season, Nash is averaging 6.7 points and 4.8 assists in 22.5 minutes.

An eight-time All-Star, Nash was selected the NBA's Most Valuable Player in 2004-05 and 2005-06 while playing for the Phoenix Suns. He began his career with Phoenix in 1996, then had a stint with the Dallas Mavericks before returning to the Suns. He is in his second season with Los Angeles.
