Chicago's Peace Tournament is a basketball tournament that looks to help thwart the violence that's running rampant in inner-city Chicago today. It pits members of rival gangs against each other in a basketball tournament in hopes that they will begin to see each other as people, and learn to interact in non-violent ways with one another. A slew of Chicago basketball legends past and present were on hand as Bulls Derrick Rose, and Joakim Noah (who was an honorary coach) were there, as well as Ben Gordon, Will Bynum, Jannero Pargo, Randy Brown, Isiah Thomas, and Antoine Walker.
"I come from the beliefe that through sport and recreation, people can come together to get to know each other. Once you know each other then you can break down the cultural barrier." - Isiah Thomas
"Remember what today's about. It’s bigger than just today. After you get off the court you got to carry that same message into your neighborhoods, you got to plant that seed of peace."
"This peace tournament right here, to me...it's the realest thing I've done since I've got to the NBA." - Joakim Noah
