NBA superstar LeBron James ticked off Cleveland fans when he left for the Miami Heat three years ago, but Cavaliers forward Anderson Varejao thinks his former teammate could return after his contract expires at the end of the 2013-14 season.

"It could happen," Varejao said, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. "Bron is from Akron. Akron is not too far from here. Eventually in his career, he probably wants to play at home."

Varejao expressed his disappointment that James left, particularly with how James announced he was leaving Cleveland in a one-hour televison special. The 31-year-old Varejao is the only remaining player on the Cavaliers' roster from James' time with the team.

"Going back to that, I think the way he left was wrong," Varejao said. "But, regardless ... he helped me a lot, helped my game and helped me as a person. I have nothing against him. It could happen."

James is back in Cleveland with the two-time defending NBA champion Heat for a game against the struggling Cavaliers (4-10).

The Akron native has refused to discuss free agency. Cavaliers coach Mike Brown also would not go there.

"He plays for the Miami Heat right now," Brown told the Beacon Journal. "He's done a fantastic job with the Miami Heat, just like the rest of those guys. They've been to the Finals three straight years."

After Wednesday night's game, James will host his Hat teammates at his home in the Akron area for Thanksgiving dinner.
