Every team makes a run of some kind during a basketball game.

Not every team makes the kind of run Towson did in its 84-59 rout of The Citadel on Friday in the Battle of Atlantis Mainland event at SECU Arena in Towson, Md.

Towson led just 26-24 after Citadel guard Matt Van Scyoc drilled a 3-pointer with 4:20 left in the first half. By the time Towson forward Marcus Damas hit a foul shot with 17:02 remaining in the game, the score was 50-25, meaning the Tigers uncorked a 24-1 run in 7:18.

In that span, The Citadel (3-5) missed all nine of its shots from the field and Towson (5-2) made 9 of 12.

Guard Four McGlynn paced Towson with a game-high 19 points, making 4 of 7 from behind the 3-point arc. Senior guard Mike Burwell scored 17 points, connecting on three 3-pointers, and added a game-high six assists. Damas contributed 16 points and forward Jerrelle Benimon added 13 points.

Towson converted 43.1 percent of its shots from the field, sinking 10 of 22 3-pointers, and held The Citadel to 39.3 percent shooting from the floor.

The Tigers also enjoyed significant advantages in points off turnovers (19-9) and rebounding (48-33).

Reserve guard Warren Sledge scored 14 points and forward Brian White had 10 for The Citadel, which plays West Alabama on Saturday. Towson hosts Abilene Christian on Saturday.
