A "Mr. Unreliable" headline directed at Kevin Durant in the Oklahoman has received all sorts of backlash and it has their sports editor, Mike Sherman, apologizing.
The words were overstated and unduly harsh. The headline and presentation left the impression that we were commenting on Durant’s season, career or even character. We were not. We were referring only to the Memphis series.
The fact the headline and presentation left that impression with so many readers is proof that we failed.
Despite Durant's struggles shooting the ball, he is far from "unreliable." Still, after hearing of the headline, Durant took the high road while his teammate, Russell Westbrook, stood up and voiced his true opinion.
