Originally the 7 game NBA Finals series was a 2-2-1-1-1 format, starting with the first two games being in the city of the team with the home court advantage.  In the mid-80s, with the league finding it overwhelming to continually set up their media, and TV crews, they elected to go to a 2-3-2 format.

Now, feeling this has skewed the competitive advantage of the team without home court advantage, the NBA's competition committee is moving for the NBA Finals to return to its original 2-2-1-1-1 format.
