Four other players scored in double figures for Mount St. Mary’s (4-9), which had lost four of its last five. Senior guard Rashad Whack had 23 points, freshman forward Will Miller 15, sophomore forward Gregory Graves 11 and freshman guard Byron Ashe 10.
Senior center Brandon Goode came off the bench to score 19 points for Norfolk State (8-7), which has lost four in a row. Senior guard Malcolm Hawkins and senior swingman Anell Alexis scored 16 points apiece. Junior guard Jamel Fuentes had 13.
The Spartans trailed by only two after Hawkins made two free throws with 12:23 to go, but the Mountaineers responded with 7-2, 9-0 and 7-0 runs in the next 8:30.
Mount St. Mary's took a 59-37 lead into the locker room at halftime and extended its lead to 25 when Whack drained a 3-pointer early in the second half. Norfolk State cut the lead to 15 with just under eight minutes remaining, but Miller made two 3-pointers to fuel an 8-0 run for the Mountaineers, who led by as many as 26 in the final minutes.
