Magic Calls Jordan Greatest One-on-One Player Ever

In the mid to late 1980s, Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers were making frequent trips to the NBA Finals and collected five NBA championships, while Michael Jordan was winning scoring titles, but it wasn't until the early 90s that he and the Bulls put together their championship runs.

Recently, Magic was asked if he could have contested with Jordan one-on-one, and the Lakers legend concedes that MJ would have beat him, but then adds that Michael could not have run a team like he did.

When Magic Johnson was asked who would win a game of one-one between him and Michael Jordan, he didn’t hesitate.

“Michael would win. That’s not my game. My game is assisting, setting up my teammates. Michael’s the greatest one-on-one player. I couldn’t go out and drop 60 like him, but he couldn’t run a team like I could.”

Jordan had a seemingly infinite amount of moves and was near impossible to stop one-on-one, and sure let's give Magic the benefit and admit that Mike couldn't run a team as well as him - but he was probably close.  Doug Collins experimented with "His Airness" at the lead guard spot, and Jordan dominated.

Take a look at highlights from this game in March 1989 where MJ put up a 21 points, 16 assists and 8 rebounds to Johnson's 20 points, 12 assists and 8 rebounds
