Prior to LeBron James leaving Cleveland and joining Miami, he was always exuberant on the court with his intricate pre-game rituals: elaborate faux-photo opportunities with teammates, and of course his signature chalk toss.
At the end of his first year with the Heat, LeBron stopped doing his pre-game chalk toss, which had been immortalized in countless photos and even Nike ads, as he took a more 'serious' approach. Two titles, and two more MVPs later, King James is feeling comfortable and confident in himself and feels it's time to bring back the chalk toss.
As the cover athlete of NBA 2K14, LBJ is depicted throwing up the chalk, and yesterday he told Brian Windhorst that it was back, and took to Instagram with a shot of NBA 2K14 for XBox 360, and included the hashtag #PowderTossComingBackToAnArenaNearYou.
“It’s just me,” James said after the Miami Heat’s practice Wednesday at the Atlantis Resort. “I love my fans and they wanted it back. They wanted me to do it so it’s back.”
Maybe next we'll see an incarnation of this.
