Following the urging of his wife and family, Lamar Odom has checked himself into a rehab facility for drug and alcohol abuse.
Lamar Odom has checked himself into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center, two sources confirm to PEOPLE.
"He realized he needs help," a source says of the NBA free agent and husband of reality star Khloé Kardashian Odom.
This follows a series of troubling reports about Odom, who was first rumored to be doing hard drugs like crack, and reported missing. Khloe Kardashian came out and said he was not missing and was safe with family, but sources said he was indeed using drugs.
Then some sleuthing revealed that he had been doing drugs while travelling with teams for away games the past couple years, and a drug dealer even claimed that LO had purchased some $50,000 worth of product off him the past few years.
It all culminated in Lamar being pulled over last week when he was driving too slow on a highway, and was found to be under the influence. Now, possibly to appease the court in an attempt at a less harsher sentence, he has checked himself into rehab.
Regardless of the reason, it’s good to see The Goods is safe for now, and hopefully he can dedicate himself to cleaning up, and possibly returning to the league.

[UPDATE 2: Odom Is Not In Rehab, Family Is Worried]
People magazine's website broke the story that Lamar had entered rehab, and now TMZ is claiming that is yet to voluntarily admit himself. Further, they add that he has not been with his family in recent days and they are worried. Apparently Khloe has given him an ultimatum that if he does not seek help then she will leave him.
There are reports out that Lamar checked himself in ... we've been making calls for the last day and just got what we're told is the definitive word ... he's not there.
Lamar has gone off the radar with the Kardashian family for the last few days. Khloe -- who has made it clear she will end the marriage if he doesn't get help -- has heard nothing from him.
We're updating the story as it comes, but lets hold major judgements until more concrete info is received.
