Recently a Cleveland reporter said “I’ve heard from someone in the know...Kyrie not long for Cleveland,” which prompted Kyrie Irving to fire back on Twitter, “I wish I knew ‘someone in the know’ for all my facts.” This put Cleveland fans at ease, as they worry about losing their franchise point guard the same way they did LeBron James in 2010.
Attending the Team USA mini camp, Irving was asked by The Plain Dealer about the tweets and made it clear that he is happy in Cleveland, and that he has zero intention of jetting for another franchise after his rookie contract is up.
"I’m a Cavalier right now, I’m happy to be a Cavalier,'' he said. [...]
"I kind of had a sarcastic approach to it from what he said because it was a rumor starter,'' he said, referring to a tweet last week from @Brandon Tierney that said Irving was not long for Cleveland. "I don’t think he knows anybody in my camp, and I don’t know who the guy is. That type of stuff I don’t pay any attention to. Right now I’m a Cleveland Cavalier and I’m happy to be here.''
Asked if he had any intention of leaving, Irving said, "No, no intention.''
If both Kyrie and newly acquired center Andrew Bynum can stay healthy then this Cavs team could be a load as they also have this year’s No. 1 overall pick, Anthony Bennett, and talented young guard Dion Waiters. A year or so together, and adding a quality free agent next summer, and this team could be for real.
