The Boston Celtics are only the 11th team in the history of the NBA to be down 3-0 in a series and force a game six, as they have won the last two meetings with the Knicks. On Sunday, New York was without the Sixth Man Of The Year, J.R. Smith after he was suspended for elbowing Jason Terry in game three, and the Celtics avoided the sweep.
In game five, Boston rallied and was able to extend the series, and one of the reasons was the sub-par play of J.R. Smith, and these photos might tell the story why the shot-happy swingman underperformed as he was partying with NY rappers French Montana and Lloyd Banks at a nightclub on the night following his team's game four loss. Not satisfied, the NBA's Sixth Man returned the next night as well.
Smith did manage 14 points in game five, but it took 14 shots, and he missed his first ten attempts. His entire career J.R. has been streaky so this is not necessarily proof that being out with Frenchie and Banks caused his poor play, but it certainly doesn’t help his case.
Here's some very amateur footage of the Knicks sixth man at the club, and check out the photos above.
