Heat & Spurs Frontrunners To Sign Greg Oden
Teams are always willing to give a fairly skilled seven footer another chance, but with the new CBA, franchises are more hesitant to just throw money at a big man who may not even pan out. We saw the Cavaliers sign Andrew Bynum to a reasonable two year deal after coming off a lost season with knee issues, and now teams have been pursuing Greg Oden, but offering only minimal money.
The former Ohio Buckeye has met with the Heat, Pelicans, Spurs, and Mavericks, but the two NBA Finalists are the clear frontrunners.
Sources say that the San Antonio Spurs andDallas Mavericks -- which had face-to-face meetings with Oden last week -- also remain in contention for the 7-footer's services. But the Heat and Spurs established themselves as the front-runners to land Oden last month and, according to one source close to the process, remain the co-favorites to sign him.
For the Spurs and Heat this is a good flyer to take on the former No. 1 overall pick, as neither would need huge minutes from the ailing center, and could use the extra big body but will not have their roster depleted if his knees don’t hold up.
