It's only pre-season, but Dwight is already in mid-season form - at saying the wrong things that is. Speaking to the Orlando Sentinel, Howard talked about point guard Tobias Harris wearing number 12, a number he wore for eight years there reaching the Finals in 2009. D12 says it bothered him to see someone else wearing that number, and feels that all he and the team accomplished during his Magic tenure should count for more.
“I just think that despite whatever happened, there was a lot of things that I did and that we did as a team, and that number was special down there,” Howard said. “And I was a little bit upset about that.”
Speaking about his decision to leave the Lakers, and Orlando, the All-NBA center said he needed to do "what was best for Dwight," and that he wanted out of Orlando but only stayed to make others happy.
“Everybody’s saying I was a ‘coward’ for leaving [the Lakers], and I knew I was going to get that,” Howard said Tuesday. “But I think with the situation I had to do what was best for Dwight.
“I know when I wanted to leave Orlando, and I decided to stay, I wasn’t happy on the inside. I wanted to please everybody else and ended up hurting a lot of people by doing it the way I did. So, this time it’s like I had a second chance.”
Basically Howard is saying all the wrong things here, and again not taking any blame or responsibility for his actions. He talks about doing what is best for himself, and then is upset that the franchise he turned away from isn't interested in commemorating him. I think he means well, and is only trying to be honest, but he would be best suited to avoid saying anything, and should just praise Orlando as a city and franchise.
