Coppin State rebounded from a blowout loss to Wagner last week by beating Ohio Valley University 96-76 Monday night in Baltimore.

The Eagles were led by guard Sterling Smith, who had 22 points, four rebounds and four assists. Guard Taariq Cephas added 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field.

Coppin State point guard Daquan Brickhouse chipped in 10 points and four assists, and guard Andre Armstrong contributed 10 points and three steals for the Eagles (2-2).

Coppin State, however, was still without last year's leading scorer, forward Michael Murray. There was talk Murray might return Monday (12.4 points, 8.9 rebounds last season) from a broken hand he suffered in practice earlier this month, but he continued to be held out.

Ohio Valley, a Christian liberal arts school located in Vienna, W.Va., fell to 1-6.

The Fighting Scots were led by guard David Sinickas with 19 points, while forward Sequan Lawrence continued his torrid start to the season with his seventh straight double-figure game. Lawrence notched 18 points, four rebounds and three assists in the loss. Ohio Valley guard Gerald McDonald added 10 points.

Coppin State soared out to a 51-35 halftime lead, marking the most points the Eagles scored in a half this season.

Next up for the Eagles will be one of the toughest games of their non-conference schedule, Wednesday at No. 22 Michigan. Coppin State knocked off a Pac-12 team, Oregon State, for its first win.

Monday's game counts toward the record for Coppin State, while it will go down as an exhibition for Ohio Valley, which next hosts Bluefield College on Dec. 3.
