Chris Paul Would Consider Early Retirement To Be With Family

Chris Paul says he would consider retiring earlier than expected to spend more time with his family.

The Clippers franchise point guard, who recently signed a 5-year $107 million contract extension, tells Bryant Gumble on HBO Real Sports that while he loves basketball, he loves his family even more, and this could cause him to step away from the game early.

“I love to play basketball more than anybody,’ Paul said. ‘I’m serious, nobody loves to play basketball more than I do. But I could honestly see myself maybe stopping a little early or premature just because I hate to miss anything with my kids. I would hate for my kids to recall those special moments in their life, and I wasn’t there.’”

I've heard this from other players before, but don't expect to see the hyper-competitive Paul walk away from the game anytime soon.  He just signed that monstrous 5-year deal, and yes, after that he will have enough money to last him and his family for several generations, but it's Paul's competitive spirit that will lead to him sticking around.

As long as he stays fairly healthy, you can expect CP3 to lace his sneakers up.  His retirement situation will probably be directly related to his championship/ring situation.  If he is still chasing his first after his 5-year extension than he will continue to do so.
