Carmelo Tells Amar'e Team Needs More Defense, Not Passing

You knew the Knicks would have a tough time without Tyson Chandler, but no one expected it to be this bad. Starting the season 3-10, the Knicks are beginning to point fingers in the media.

Amar'e Stoudemire told the press that the main issue with the team is that the ball is not moving (30th in the NBA in assists) and people need to pass more.  This was a thinly veiled shot at Carmelo Anthony, the team's primary playmaker.

Asked his thoughts about the allegation that the ball needs to be passed more, Melo said it has little to do with the offense, and everything to do with defense.  He feels it's easy for others to start placing the blame, but says it's the defense that has to change before anything else.

“It’s just defense at this point,’’ Anthony said. “The easiest thing to do is try to point fingers and trying to figure out what’s going on — [like] ball movement. At the end of the day it’s defense, we’re not guarding anybody.” [...]

“It’s easy to do because at the end of the day, I have the ball most of the offense,’’ Anthony said. “When you hear that, where it’s coming from, why is it being said, the real reason we’re not winning is we’re not defending. We’re not believing or trusting in one another on the defensive end.’’
