The Chicago Bulls sent second-year guard Marquis Teague to the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League on Thursday.
Teague played two minutes and failed to score in Wednesday's Christmas Day game against the Brooklyn Nets.
The 2012 first-round NBA Draft pick from Kentucky has played in 19 games and started two this season for the Bulls. He averages 2.4 points and 1.5 assists per game.
But Teague has not been a consistent contributor despite an opportunity that arose when point guard Derrick Rose went down with a knee injury earlier this month. Instead, the Bulls signed guard D.J. Augustin off waivers. They received additional help when guard Kirk Hinrich returned Wednesday after missing five games with a back injury.
Teague's assignment to the D-League ended earlier this month before he played a game when guard Mike James suffered a knee injury and Teague quickly was recalled to the Bulls.
Teague is the younger brother of Atlanta Hawks point guard Jeff Teague.
